Shootout strikes again

For the last two weeks Wings fans have watched six straight losses with four coming from the skills competition that Ken Holland is not eliminating fast enough. Tonight was, for me at least, the most frustrating of the losses so far. Despite dominating possession (64.71%) and taking 71 shots attempts the Wings could only find a single goal. Despite leading late into the third a very weak call lead to Colorado's power play and a tie game, then we all knew the script after that. Wings get chances but can't finish, Wings dominate again in OT and finally act three, the Wings lose in a shootout. What is going on in Hockeytown?
First and foremost, there is no reason to panic. Although we are all extremely frustrated with whats going on, slumps happen. During this stretch the wings are shooting 1.8% at even strength 2nd worst in the league and over 2% lower than the 3rd worst team. A PDO of 95% is not going to last, not for a  team with this much offensive ability. The shootout is a legitimate problem, but if the goals start coming they will be able to finish these games before we get that far. Most importantly, despite this losing streak that is driving us all crazy, the Wings are a single point out of first place in the division and are still on pace to finish with 103 points. There is a 90% chance of the Wings making the playoffs at this point (which seems a bit low since it doesn't take into account their incredible possession numbers) and we won't have to deal with the shootout once we get there. This is the same team we have seen for weeks, don't let a run of bad luck cloud your opinion. This team is still among the league's elite and will be in contention for the eastern conference crown. Stay the course and trust the process. Go Wings
